The city of Carentan-les-Marais accepted the invitation of Meierijstad to participate in the commemorations of the 77th anniversary of their liberation.<\/p>\n

It is a common past that unites our two cities as well as a deep respect for the men who sacrificed their lives to give us freedom.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
On the program, the Carentan delegation was able to inaugurate the first marker of the Liberation Route Europe in Holland, and participate in the ceremonies of Eerde (Geronimo monument near the famous mill), but also at the Monument to the Dutch and at the British wargames cemetery of Sint Oerdenrode.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A historical and cultural presentation of the area has also been planned in order to better understand the battles that allowed the advance of the Allied troops in Holland.<\/p>\n

This invitation marks the beginning of a deep friendship and we will welcome with pleasure Mr. Kees Van Rooij (Mayor of Meierijstad) and his team next year for the 78th anniversary of the Normandy landings.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
